Fearless Girl meets Fearless Woman. As one of the 2% of female CEOs in banking globally, Nandita Bakhshi couldn't resist striking a pose with the bronze sculpture by Kristen Visbal. 'Fearless Girl' was installed facing down the Wall Street Bull in New York City to send a powerful message about #GenderDiversity and to encourage companies to recruit women in leadership positions. Message received. At Bank of the West, nearly 40% of our Executive Leadership is female. #PositiveBanking
According to @natgeo , our oceans contain roughly 97% of Earth’s water. Not only that, but it’s also the home to millions of creatures, including the blue whale – our planet’s largest living animal. On #WorldOceansDay , we’re reminded of how vital our oceans are and the work that needs to be done to help protect them. #PositiveBanking @worldoceansday
[📸 CONTEST WINNERS] Thanks again to all the participants in our #CaptureTheChange contest who captured the change they saw in the 🌎 and shined a light on #sustainability , environmental consciousness, energy transition, & #greentechnology After reviewing hundreds of entries, we're so excited to announce that our judges @travisburkephotography @jess wandering @alliemtaylor and @jedidiahjenkins have selected our 2 winners who have won a paid 3-year lease on a TESLA MODEL S! . Our second Grand Prize Winner is @mikeygribbin Congratulations and thank you for sharing those changes that meant the most to you. . I have always admired the concept of not shaping the land to fit our needs, but building in harmony with the earth. Shaping our houses and weaving our technology among and with the trees instead of overtop of them. Treating our home the way a home should be treated; with respect and dignity. With an ever-growing interest in outdoor activities via social media, we need to be all the more vigilant to push for more earth- friendly alternatives and protect our wild places. Not everyone can live a fully self-sustainable lifestyle in a treehouse, but there’s things to be learned from the people who can. @bankofthewest #capturethechange #contest
[📸 CONTEST WINNERS] Thanks again to all the participants in our #CaptureTheChange contest who captured the change they saw in the 🌎 and shined a light on #sustainability , environmental consciousness, energy transition, & #greentechnology After reviewing hundreds of entries, we're so excited to announce that our judges @travisburkephotography @jess wandering @alliemtaylor and @jedidiahjenkins have selected our 2 winners who have won a paid 3-year lease on a TESLA MODEL S! . Our first Grand Prize Winner is @bordeee Your photo embodies the changes we wanted to showcase with this contest and we're thankful for your efforts in sharing this awesome photo. . This picture has a lot of interwoven narratives, and what you take away from it depends a lot on you as the viewer. Perhaps you see the number of people, or the amount of plastic sold and used during the 20 minutes of rain we encountered on this random Tuesday. Or maybe you see the iconic landmark on which this photo was taken. Whatever your first impression might be, I want to highlight the one piece of this that stands out most to me, and that’s us. The more you travel, what you see is often times different than what we tend to share on social media. No matter where you go, chances are you will be surrounded by other people. Sometimes it can get overwhelming. And while we often share romanticized views of the world and consume with mostly our own needs in mind, these same choices we make as individuals are what tend to compound and sit at the very root of sustainability issues. We are multiplying faster and living longer than ever before. We are traveling more and consuming at a rate that cannot be maintained. If we want to see the greatest opportunity for change, then perhaps all we have to do is look within. So next time we’re each individually faced with a decision about what to consume, throw away, or even the businesses that we support, I hope we can each pause long enough to make a conscious choice. To choose based on who and what we value most in this world. An answer that I hope would include each other. #CaptureTheChange #contest @bankofthewest
Did you know that there are an estimated 12.3 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., employing 9.2 million people and generating over $1.8 trillion in revenues? Working together, we can get these numbers even higher and be an even greater economic force for change. http://gowe.st/x5yvg #WESource #SmallBusinessWeek @clubk9dogs
Women occupy less than 2% of bank CEO positions worldwide and Nandita Bakhshi is one of them. In this latest American Banker article Nandita shares her perspective on the “new normal” when it comes to running a bank. “Why wouldn’t you want to do well for the environment? Why wouldn’t you want to make progress on gender equality?” #PositiveBanking #BOTWvalues ➡️ https://americanbanker.com/news/rise-of-the-next-gen-Bank-ceo
Huge thanks to @lovethecoffeebean for sharing this inspiring pic for our #CaptureTheChange contest & for teaching our next generation how to better preserve our 🌎! . . Teaching Life's Lessons to my boys.... When you are blessed with witnessing beautiful places (i.e. the beach, a city park, historial landmark ) leave them in a better condition than when you arrived! Every year we visit a small beach house with private beach access. After enjoying the beach, I told my family that the following day we needed to bring down a garbage bag. This sparked a conversation, that if no one took the time to pick up trash/litter on the beaches, one day there wouldn't be a beautiful beach to enjoy. We now do this everywhere we go! One small act daily, can add up to great things! #capturethechange #contest @bankofthewest
Thanks again to everyone who took part in our #CaptureTheChange contest! This was a great look into the changes people see on our planet in their everyday life. We want to continue to share these amazing entries to shed light on what we care about as the bank for a changing world. 🌱 • 📸 by @warriors_fan_2018 Earth Hour is the world’s largest movement for climate change in which people take action to save our planet. Happy #EarthDay 2019! At Bank of the West, we’re shifting our focus to where we feel we can make the most impact, like advancing diversity and women's entrepreneurship programs, financing for more small businesses, promoting programs for sustainable energy, and withdrawing support from companies and business activities that we believe may be detrimental to our environment and our health. One last piece of #travistakeover inspiration for you all to enter the #CaptureTheChange contest. Although this melting ice within a glacier in the Pacific Northwest made for one of the most beautiful and serene moments I’ve experienced, it’s extremely alarming how fast ice is melting all over the world. I’m grateful to get to explore these places while they’re still here and motivated to help ensure their existence for future generations. It's only with continued investment in education and innovation around sustainable forms of generating energy that we can get ahead of the very real effects of global warming. And that’s just the type of change @BankoftheWest is aiming to drive. Thank you so much for following along with my takeover and good luck in the photo contest! Post your photo before 3/29. See contest rules on @BankoftheWest ’s handle. #travistakeover #capturethechange #ad #sponsored
More #travistakeover inspiration for the #CaptureTheChange contest. It’s estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastics in the ocean than fish. I grew up on the coast and as a surfer and diver and I’ve seen the impacts above and below the surface. Here, my friend @brinkleydavies explores a meromictic lake in Indonesia. The top layer is cool, crystal clear fresh water while the bottom is warm, green, and salty. It’s our generation’s responsibility to change the future of our oceans, lakes, and rivers. My hope is that through my photography, I will inspire others to make personal changes while companies like @BankoftheWest help drive big changes forward. #travistakeover #capturethechange #ad #sponsored Don’t forget to enter the contest by 3/29. You could drive home a Tesla Model S!
Hey, I’m Travis ( @travisburkephotography ). I’m an adventure photographer and athlete based in California. As one of the judges for the #CaptureTheChange photo contest, I’m taking over @BankoftheWest ’s handle today to inspire and encourage you all to participate. You could drive home in a Tesla Model S! I’ve always been intrigued by the night sky and spend a lot of my time photographing it. During last year’s Super Blue Blood Moon, I took the opportunity to send a larger message by capturing a father and daughter silhouetted against the moon. To me, this represented the passing of his appreciation for the environment and our responsibility to protect it, something @BankoftheWest finances (and divests ). #capturethechange #travistakeover #ad #sponsored

[PHOTO CONTEST ENTRY] • 📸 by @angela_service An engineer named, Richard Ensign, spent a couple years and a few thousand dollars constructing a concrete sailboat as an experiment. It is believed that he created the design with the idea that there would be an economic collapse leading people to find an inexpensive and safe way of escaping the chaos and disorder that would take place on land. In 1973, the boat made its maiden three month voyage down the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. A flood in 1996 deposited the craft on the shores of Sauvie Island, Oregon where it sits today. A few years ago, a friend and I headed out to the beach to find the UFO looking ship with an idea in mind. We waited until the sun went down and set up our cameras. My friend climbed inside and lit the portholes up with a flashlight and I lit a smoke-bomb and walked around the craft holding it high above my head. The 30 second exposure captured a pretty amazing site that night! @BankoftheWest This is my #contest entry for #capturethechange

[PHOTO CONTEST ENTRY] • 📸 by @angela_service Wind power is an alternative to burning fossil fuel, is renewable, clean, uses little land and has many more environmental benefits. The Windy Point/Windy Flats project, located in Goldendale, Washington is the largest wind farm in Washington state. It spans 26 miles along the Columbia River Gorge ridge line. I took this photo from our family’s 20 acres during a beautiful summer sunset. Mount Hood majestically towers over the rolling hills and farmlands sharing the skyline with the massive wind turbines. [PHOTO CONTEST ENTRY] • 📸 by @tmounlavongsy I’ve had the privilege to live in many cities dedicated to sustainability, environmental consciousness, energy transition, or green technology. Boston is now my new home, and I am committing myself to doing my part to preserve this world we live in every day, by walking, biking, and using public transportation. There’s a huge difference between an extra 30 minutes added to the daily commute some may say? But I say, if walking, biking, or riding the train every day, means one less vehicle on the road, a little less carbon monoxide produced, or a little positive impact to this earth...then HELL YA. We all want to change or impact the world we live in. But often times doubt the difference one person can make. So let me remind you this, “Never doubt that a group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has” ~ M.
